"It's a privilege to express myself through art. I paint because it gives voice to my experiences and communicates my feelings about a subject. Using technical efforts, glazing, masking and back-painting, and materials such as transparent watercolors and three hundred pound Fabriano paper, I strive to show the viewer more than is seen on the surface of the painting. Watercolor has endless possibilities and challenges. I don't adhere to a rigid set of rules. My paintings have high realism, especially mid plane. However, there are always passages that suggest a spontaneous or abstract approach, keeping in mind the story I'm trying to tell. Nature has a wealth of design. I use color, dramatic shapes, strong light and shadow patterns, and numerous parallels and diagonals to move the viewer's eyes into, around and back to the focus of the painting."
